The most popular poker variant is Texas Hold'em, and that's exactly where we recommend starting. The aim of the game is to build the best five-card hand from your two starting cards and the five community cards on the table - or to get the other players to fold.

Here's the flow of the game in brief:

The start: Each player receives two "private" cards.
Betting: The first betting round takes place.
Flop: Three community cards are revealed on the table.
Betting: The second betting round.
Turn: The fourth community card is revealed.
Betting: The third betting round.
River: The fifth and final community card is revealed.
Betting: The fourth and final betting round.

As mentioned, at the start of a poker hand each player receives two face-down cards (your "private hand"). The remaining cards go in the middle of the table. The game then proceeds through several betting rounds:

The first round: You look at your two cards. You have to decide:

Call (Match): Put in as many chips as the biggest bet;

Raise: Increase the bet to put pressure on the other players;

Fold: Leave the round if your cards are too weak.

The million-dollar question - how does poker differ at the casino vs online?

The main difference between poker at a casino table and online is the pace of the game and the psychology. In a live game the casino dealer deals the cards by hand, chips are counted manually, and in an hour you play through an average of only 25-30 hands, while online that number can top a hundred.
