How we rate games

The four pillars

Our methodology is built on the urge to strip away marketing promises and show a game's true face. We follow four principles:

• Data first: Emotions are fine, but data speaks for itself. We analyse RTP, volatility and win frequency. Graphics and theme matter, of course - we all play for fun - but visuals will never replace the mathematical chance of winning.
• Full disclosure: We don't just say "good" or "bad" - we explain why. We pay special attention to the variable RTP practice, so you don't get unpleasantly surprised.
• Bonus maximisation: Our main job is helping you use bonuses wisely. We evaluate games from two angles:
  • Wagering efficiency: How safely and predictably can this game clear (wagering) requirements?
  • Big win potential: What are the odds of an impressive multiplier within a minimal number of spins?
• Dynamic analysis: The gambling world changes daily. We track the latest mechanics so our advice never goes stale. We revisit our game reviews at least every six months to make sure everything is up to date.

Examining a game's "DNA"

At this stage we literally take the game apart piece by piece to understand its "engine".

RTP (Return to Player) - the harsh reality

RTP shows what percentage of the bets placed a game theoretically returns to players over the long run.

• The problem: Many industry giants (such as Play'n GO or Pragmatic Play) release the same game with different RTP levels - from a decent 96% all the way down to a weak 88%. Casinos usually pick the version that suits them best.
• Our approach: We always state which RTP version we've reviewed, along with which alternative versions of each game exist.

Volatility - balancing risk and emotion

It defines a game's character - how often and how big the wins you can expect are.

Mechanics and potential

We analyse not just how the game looks, but also its flow (gameplay loop).

• Bonus game quality: What are these games' mechanics, how well do they fit the rest of the game thematically, and how do they get triggered.
  • Triggering: How often, on average, can you "catch" the bonus?

Developer reliability and reputation

We sort developers into three tiers:

1. Leaders (Top Tier): NetEnt, Play'n GO, Pragmatic Play. Technically flawless, but these are also the producers who most often use the variable RTP system.
2. Innovators: Yggdrasil, Quickspin, Relax Gaming. Often offer more stable, more player-friendly terms.
